Hospitality Update

Tourism Australia has launched its new marketing campaign "There's Nothing Like Australia". The "There's nothing like …." tag-line can apply to multiple places, people, experiences and emotions, which will enable cooperative branding and marketing with multiple destinations and tourism industry partners. For more information, visit Tourism Australia.

The new campaign invites Australians to share their favourite travel destination, secret holiday spot or tourism experience. People are able to upload photographs onto www.nothinglikeaustralia.com and attach a short description. These will be compiled into an interactive map which visitors to the website can 'roll over' and click through to find out more information.

Restaurant and Catering would like to invite and encourage all our members to consider uploading a photograph and experience onto the website.  This is an opportunity for our industry to increase the food and wine tourism experience on the Tourism Australia consumer website.  For example, 'there’s nothing like eating fish and chips as the sun goes down at ............' or 'there is nothing like enjoying a dining experience at ......... whilst enjoying a view of ............'.

For more information or assistance, please contact Jessica Keen jessicak@restaurantcater.asn.au

Overseas Workers Survey

Overseas Workers SurveyOver the past months (since September last year) there have been substantial changes to the migration program. These changes make it far more difficult to bring in overseas workers (particularly cooks). Restaurant & Catering is working on a number of alternatives for members of our state associations which include a labour agreement under which cooks, chefs and restaurant managers would be able to immigrate to Australia.

Whilst negotiating the labour agreement, Restaurant & Catering has also set up a training fund. This fund is able to receive donations from businesses wishing to meet their training obligations to bring in overseas workers.

To assist in the Association advocacy to retain the capacity to bring in overseas workers, it is requested that you complete a short survey. All reporting of the results will be in summary only.

If you have any questions on migration matters, please call Norberta Pereira on 1300 RCAUST (722878).

EC2 Luncheon – Hospitality & Gaming Australasia Expo 2010

Hospitality & Gaming Australasia

Restaurant & Catering, in conjunction with Hospitality & Gaming Australasia Expo 2010, is presenting a unique dining experience for our special guests today and tomorrow (Monday 19 and Tuesday 20 April) between 1.30pm and 3.30pm each day at the EC2 Luncheon.

The philosophy behind the EC2 Luncheon is simple – Eat + Entertain + Educate. It‘s the only chance during the Expo you‘ll get to see two of Australia‘s finest chefs, Sydney‘s Justin North (Bécasse) and Brisbane‘s David Pugh (Restaurant Two), side by side on stage creating morsels of flavour right in front of you.

The two chefs will be getting up close and personal with the guests, sharing their tips, meeting and greeting, and answering questions. All the while, the Gold Coast Convention & Exhibition Centre‘s (GCCEC) Executive Chef, Michael Fletcher, will be recreating Justin and David‘s culinary delights back stage with a live feed screened in front of the audience to show exactly what‘s involved in preparing and plating up quality food. The luncheon will be hosted by renowned chef, author and presenter, Peter Howard, who will personally make sure the techniques and experience behind David and Justin are shared with the audience.

It‘s the most hands on, educational experience you‘ll ever get with these culinary geniuses. EC2 is the perfect platform for taking away inspiration at the same time as taking your next bite!

Visit www.hospitalityexpo.com.au to book your seat at EC2, for Monday 19 April or Tuesday 20 April.

Tickets are $135 + GST per person, or $1,080 + GST for a table of eight (includes a full 3 course meal and all drinks)
