Rosé Revolution

2 days following the Rosé Revolution Nationwide Tweet Up and I am having serious #RoseRev twitter hash tag withdrawals. So to cure the melancholy of post revolutionary comedown I have decided to re-visit the night of the Rosé Revolution Tweet Up. For all who could not be there on the night, drinking all that delicious Rosé with us, remember the Summer is young my revolutionist friends and rosés are ripe for the picking but if your not quite sure where to start why not get out and try the brackets below and re-live the event that was truly Revolutionary!

It was a sunny and humid day in Brisbane, the vibe was right for a Rosé Revolution. At 6pm Qld time the rosés were poured, the first flight of 6 ready to be tasted & tweeted! The boys from Qwoff tv were set up in the Yarra Valley on the deck of Steve Webber and Leanne DeBortoli’s vineyard home. All the winemakers in the Yarra were hanging out on the back deck and knocking back rosé with salumi and fresh bread.
The first wine was poured by Steve and he and the Qwoff boys began to taste and chat about the inspiration behind the Rosé Revolution. There were guest appearances from uber Sommelier Matthew Brooke giving tips for the perfect food pairings and wine-writer Nick Stock spoke of his favourite rosés and rosé moments.
For more info on the Rosé Revoloution check out the website www.rosewinerevolution.com and become a follower on facebook and twitter and be sure not to miss any rosé action over the summer!
Below is the first bracket tasted, next week will reveal the tasting notes of the second bracket.

Bracket 1 – The Home Grown Heroes!

2010 DeBortoli Yarra Valley Estate Grown Pinot Noir Rose – A gorgeous salmon in colour with a nose of wild strawberry and earthy funkiness. The palate is where this wine really works, dry but juicy at first with wild strawberry fruit this is followed by a creamy strawberries&cream mouthfeel backed up by a whack of sappy Pinot spice, it’s all about the texture. This wine captures the prettiness of the Pinot Noir grape and adds the funk in the trunk too! A rosé for the Pinot-phile! Delicious and definitely wine for the back deck; pair with Antipasto plate and deep philosophical musings or just good music.

2010 Foster ? Rocco Sangiovese Rosé from Heathcote – A favourite of the evening this Rosé is just as pretty and salmon in colour as the last with the sour cherry and spice nose of Sangiovese, a lovely floral note also lingers in the balmy Brisbane air surrounding this rosé. The palate is dry & very crisp with tart Queen Ann Cherry flavours, herb and black tea spices. A lovely little grip on the back of the palate keeps this wine going and going. Jamon, Jamon, Jamon!

2010 Port Phillip 'Salasso' (Shiraz) Mornington Peninsula, VIC
Another lovely onion-skin or salmon coloured wine. The nose shows lifted mulberry and dark berry fruits that burst from the glass.
The palate is dry with good acidity and deep brambly berry fruits with liquorish and spice notes rounding out the finish. Try this little number with pepperoni pizza or bbq’d hamburgers with beetroot relish.

2010 Longview 'Boat Shed'  (Nebbiolo) Adelaide Hills, South Australia – This too was also a favourite on the night pretty salmon pink in colour it showed the cool climate characters of Adelaide Hills and the Nebbiolo grape, which seems to have found a suitable home here away from its usual fog-shrouded landscape of Piemonte in Italy’s north. The nose has bright floral rose accents and spicy tree bark notes with a grapefruit citrus twist. The palate is dry and vinous with cherry and grapefruit flavours and the lingering prettiness of red flowers. Delicious with Smoked Salmon pizza and Caprese Salad.

2010 Rogers & Rufus (Grenache) Barossa, South Australia – Pale pretty cherry blossom pink in colour with orange tints. Aromas of red liquorish, strawberry, rhubarb spice and red apple skins leap from the glass. The palate is dry with tangy pomegranate; wild strawberries, briney sea spray and lovely floral lavender notes. Delicious with White Bait and Garlic Aioli think Mediterranean seashore.

2008.5 Bress 'Harcourt' Cabernets (Sauvignon & Franc) Harcourt Ranges, VIC – This wine is the deepest hued of the bunch but still very much within the salmon spectrum of colours. The nose shows aromas of leafy tomato bush and bright cassis fruit and spicy rose water notes. The palate is dry but very juicy with ripe dark berry fruits, incredibly potent flavours I feel almost like I am drinking liquid Turkish delight! Try this flavourful little number with bbq’d lamb cutlets and rosemary-red currant jelly.
