The Rosé Revolution - An Introduction

Bree's picture
Fri, 15/10/2010 - 5:58pm | by Bree

roserevThe Rosé Revolution has arrived! The pale, dry and delicious Rosé wines that are devoured on the Mediterranean Coast, are finally appearing in Australia/ New Zealand.

These are serious Rosé's for grown ups, but not to be taken seriously! They can be made from savoury, earthy varietals like Pinot Noir, Grenache, Mouvédre and Syrah, even Sangiovese and Nebbiolo but what they share in common is that they are interesting and appetising.
These wines are perfect for Summer drinking and a great to share with friends and food. Get on board and join in the Rosé Revolution.

Why are we so excited about this opportunity to promote Dry Rosé styles?

  • These wines are perfect for the summer lifestyle - great match with food and delicious
  • If we collectively start educating consumers about the flavour profile, and fact that these wines are a great food match there’s a real opportunity to aggressively grow the category.
  • Many of these wines are made in a unique style - the story never has been told to consumers.
  • These styles of Rosé adorn the tables of many European restaurants over summer - it should be the same case in Australia and New Zealand given our outdoor lifestyle and love of fine food and wine.

Why focus on the pale dry Rosé styles?
Consumers often find purchasing Rosé confusing as there is such a diversity of styles, colour and flavour profiles. Part of the success of New Zealand Sauvignon Blanc is the fact that consumers can order a glass and know what to expect in the glass. There are many great serious Rosé’s being made, but the goal is to make it easy for consumers when they are purchasing. We don’t want to focus on the sweet and brightly coloured wine but collectively want to talk about the dryer styles, many of which tend to be paler in colour.

How to get involved:

  • Join in the Tweet Up on 30 November
  • There will be a day devoted to focusing on Rosé’s and communicating the style with a live tweet up between 7-8.30pm. Grab your favourite dry Rosé’s and get involved by tasting and tweeting. Register your involvement on http://Rosérevolution.eventbrite.com/ and send us your logo to include to show your support. Use the #RoséRev in your tweets and watch the stream of tweets. There will also be a live video stream by the Qwoff Boys.

Organise your own Meet Up:

  • What better way to spread the word about Rosé than to organise a meet up and get people talking and tasting delicious Rosés. This could either be held at your restaurant, cellar door, an in store tasting or at home with your family and friends. If you register your meet up on http://www.meetup.com/Rosérevolution/ we’ll also help to drive people to your meet.
  • Promote the style of Rosé and get consumers involved
  • Start to engage consumers and talk to them about the dry style of Rosé, how well it matches with food and how delicious it is. There’s lots of ways to do this: Have a special offer at Cellar Door and talk to your customers about the style, put some Rosé’s on pour as by the glass offers in your restaurant/ or bar or think about interesting ways to serve Rosé with food. There are some more suggestions and some materials for you to use on the website www.Roséwinerevolution.com.
  • Become Social and Share your photos and stories
Post photos of your Rosé events, tastings and information on our social media sites and engage with consumers. There’s a community of Rosé lovers being built, so use this as an opportunity to talk to them about your wines.
